Hans Mk2

INTRODUCED

So this is the story of a humble Mk2 GTi 8v belonging to a lovely gentleman named Hans Grobler. When I first met Hans, he wasn’t sure what engine he wanted in his ultra clean Mk2. Lets be honest here and say that there isn’t much, engine wise, that hasn’t been fitted to a VW Golf mk2. The criteria was that whatever we decided on had to be done in keeping with the uber clean nature of the car. So after much deliberation, the sound of the V6 is what made Hans grin from ear to ear. But not any old V6, it had to be special and look the part too! ……read on for full story.

Hans Mk2

Stock looking motor

So this is how Hans dropped the car to me. Standard looking with a set of rims. Nothing on this car is rusty, it’s either been replaced or refurbished.

So first job was to remove the very clean 8v engine.

Next up was the installation of the necessary mk3 golf subframe, gear linkage and a hydraulic clutch conversion to make the chosen engine work in harmony with the mk2 golf shell.

That menacing view!

That menacing view!

Like i really need to write anything below this picture!

The money shot!

The money shot!

So, with a rebuilt VR6 gearbox, new clutch etc, the new heart, a 3.2 24v V6 aka R32 engine sits in her rightful place. But she doesn’t beat yet!

Plumbed in, wired with a VW Enterprises custom loom to a Emerald K6 ecu, she now beats loud and proud!

So after i had done my work, the car was taken to Style Dynamics for a custom 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust with their bespoke OEM style tailpipes! I promise you there is nothing OEM about the sound track this system emits…….Turn your speakers up and play the above video!!!! Well that’s the car finished? ….Or is it?
