Hemal’s Mk2 1.8 GL

Unwanted parts don’t get thrown away, they get recycled. I removed the 2.0 ABF engine from Matty’s More Door Golf and listed it on eBay. It sat on there for a while whilst getting the usual eBay dreamers and time wasters!!! Eventually a young man contacted me with a plan to “Up His Viva” on a smart looking More Door 1.8 GL Mk2 Golf. So a deal was done and the engine was delivered to said young man Hemal, who by now had spent a lot of time chatting to me to achieve the best bang for his money.

Hemal had twin 40 DCOE’s mounted to his 8 valver, and as anyone who has gone down this route will know, are a pain in the rear end and the closely situated pocket!!!…..needing constant tuning and hard hot starts made life hard for Hemal. I suggested that he utilizes the stock ABF inlet with an aftermarket standalone ECU. This way he wouldn’t suffer the same fate as he did with the carbs. The problem was the roar from those 4 trumpets had Hemal hooked and he just had to have that sound again, so he decided on Jenvey Throttle Bodies mated to one of Emeralds K6 ECU’s .

Hemal is no stranger to spanners as his father runs a garage/Mot station. So between Hemal and his Dad, they stripped and rebuilt the engine using high-compression pistons and a few other key components to help extract the most from his new power plant.

It was then down to me to wire in the mk3 VR6 fuel tank and pump along with the Emerald ECU and a few odds and ends. Once a few final checks were made and all fluids topped up it was time to fire up the beast. OMG, what a sweet sounding beast, words just can’t describe, so have a listen below!

So now that it’s in, it just needs mapping, but i’m sure I heard Hemal muttering something about installing uprated camshafts!!!!……watch this space guys!!!
